Starting at 5:30 on the 21st of April and finishing at approximately 17:30 on the 24th.
DELIVERED by FareShare North East
FareShare North East is inviting keen adventurers and camping enthusiasts to join them in journeying the length of Hadrian’s Wall, to celebrate the 1900 Festival and to raise money for their food redistribution service.
To mark the special anniversary of Hadrian’s Wall being built 1900 years ago, Newcastle based charity FareShare North East are organising a fundraising challenge – an 88-mile walk across four days along the historic paths of Hadrian’s Wall.
Arriving at Bowness-on-Solway on the 21st of April, you can expect four days of good company, amazing views, challenging walking sessions, and rewarding wind downs at campsites. This challenge will be perfect for experienced hikers but is achievable for anyone who’s new to outdoor fitness or walking for long periods – support staff at FareShare North East have put together a preparation guide for the walk and can help anyone to get ready to achieve this goal. They’ll also be sharing the load and taking on the challenge with you, and will be there to offer their guidance and support throughout the whole journey. Together, we’ll finish at Segedunum and reach a well-earned rest, as well as a warm welcome from supporters.
FareShare North East asks anyone who is interested in taking on the 88 Mile Challenge to also support the charity by gaining sponsors for their impressive trek.
FareShare North East’s mission is to fight food waste and tackle hunger. They play an active role in reducing hunger in the North East region by redistributing good to eat food to over 200 charities and community groups. Every week, they deliver a variety of food across the North East, from as north as Alnwick, throughout Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Teesside, and right down to Loftus. In 2021, they delivered enough food to make over 4 million meals and helped thousands of people across the region gain access to vital food supplies.
Joining FareShare North East in their fundraising efforts would play a huge part in helping them carry out their work. Donations from sponsors will fund the running of 7 busy delivery vans so that there’s enough petrol, maintenance, and equipment to keep getting food to people in need. They will also contribute to costs covering equipment for volunteers, ensuring everyone is safe and supported during their shifts.
This is not a ticketed event, though participants will need to register and get involved.
Get involved, show your support, and join us in this special celebration!
