The event celebrates 25 years of Banipal magazine of modern Arab literature, hosting important Arab authors, including Syrian poet Nouri Al-Jarrah, author of “The Stone Serpent, Barates of Palmyra’s Elegy for Regina his Beloved”, set by the stone serpent of Hadrian’s Wall after a single line in Aramaic on a tombstone in Fort Arbeia, South Shields fired his imagination.
