Meet three beautiful reindeer and learn about exploration in the Frozen South pole.
Three beautiful reindeer will be joining Great North Museum: Hancock on Saturday 17 December at the Great North Museum: Hancock as part of their Great North Winterland event. These reindeer, who have flown in from the North Pole (or County Durham) are very busy at this time of year and so are looking forward to a relaxed day at the museum to meet all of our lovely visitors. You can learn all about reindeer health and lifestyle and how they adapt to life in the North East of England. There will be a vending machine to buy reindeer food so please take a £1 coin if you would like to purchase a handful of food to give these gentle giants a tasty treat.
There will be a Great North Museum: Hancock Christmas story projection, festive music to get you in the mood and we will have some Glaciologists and Antarctic Scientists for you to talk to and learn about exploration in the Frozen South pole.
There will also be a number of festive crafts for you to have a go at from making sustainable wrapping paper and gift tags to sowing seeds to celebrate the Roman festival of Saturnalia, these tiny seeds sowed in the depths of Winter will be ready to bloom in full colour come the Spring.
Do remember your £1 change as there is limited change available in the shop and do wrap up warm as it will be cold in the reindeer enclosure.
