More wonderful views on this walk which explores the relatively little visited countryside north of Hadrian’s Wall. On leaving Greenhead, you will follow the route of Wainwright’s Pennine Journey up to the remains of Thirlwall Castle before heading up to Cairney Croft, Moss Peterel and Whiteside on Thirlwall Common. Then, walk down to Hadrian’s Wall, joining it at Cawfields Quarry and following it for about four miles back to Greenhead, passing Walltown, Walltown Crags and Carvoran Roman Army Museum.
Good walking boots and outdoor clothing are essential. Bring something to eat and drink. Starts at 10.15am from the centre of Greenhead. Park in the road alongside Greenhead church and school.
