Who Knew? Hadrian, the famous wall builder was a gay man. Hadrian’s lover was Antinous. The pair set up home together and travelled as partners throughout the Roman Empire. When Antinous died, Hadrian made him a god; created a religious cult and even founded the city of Antinoopolis. In these three writing workshops you are invited to explore how queer love has existed throughout time, and how ancient poems and love stories can inspire LGBTQI+ writing today. Join any one of the workshops, or come to all three. The workshops are free through funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and will be held in North Shields Central Library (23rd April) and at Dance City in Newcastle (7th and 14th May).
