Delivered by Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Panorama Group.
This is an opportunity to be inspired by Hadrian’s Wall and to contribute to a collaborative art work celebrating the Walltown Crags section. Local artists and craftpersons are invited to come along and sketch and paint the vista presented with individual responses to the ‘en plein air’ then, as wished, provide images for a group panorama portraying the Wall at this site. With 3 local artists as assistants, it is hoped participants will be stimulated to explore the setting adjacent to the Walltown Crags Turret, and the Wall itself, so that a painted canvas scene can later be drawn up as a group achievement inclusive of the entire context at this junction. No prior experience is required though the lead artists will be giving guidance, and in particular will be looking for relevant images for the immediate foreground of the freize. An interest in landscape drawing and painting will be useful, but there is a range of natural elements which on a small scale could lead to individual craft items as well as 2D sketches(drawings and paintings)in the eventuality that not every image could be used as collage for the freize. This is a collaborative piece, which it is hoped can be displayed locally as appropriate.2D and 3D images may also be able to be exhibited separately as well. The intended freize will be on a wide scale.Participants should bring their own materials and A4 size paper will be appropriate for the group panorama, potentially as a group collage. There will be a later workshop to discuss and combine relevant elements, but participants can also leave images on the sketching day. The lead artists all have art training and tutoring in their cv’s and all have exhibited very widely .They trust they will be providing a day of great interest to the visual artist – in a stunning context.the lead artists are Veronica Currie,Julia Garner and Elli Logan-Airey
